Die Holder

By Robert Beason

As I do a lot of threading on the lathe, it seemed a good idea to make a die holder that would Photofacilitate the process.

This 1″ die holder design allows for a longer threaded area and has a 1/2″ hole on the back to assist in getting the die square to the stock for a good start on the threads.

PhotoThe die holder accessories include a centering tool that fits into the hole in the back of the die and attaches to the tailstock chuck with a holder that allows for the die to be easily turned.

The square item seen in these photos has a magnet in the small end so that when it is put into the lathe chuck key hole it will stay put and allow you to rotate the chuck in such manner to lock it in place for threading.
